The seminarians of the Institute of the Incarnate Word at the Venerable Fulton Sheen House of Formation are back home to kick-off the new Academic Year! This last summer the seminarians were engaged in many apostolates and activities, such as three popular missions, 30-day spiritual exercises, intensive philosophy courses, and convivencia in Wyoming. It is always a great bless for the seminarians to start a new Academic Year, to return to the studies of philosophy, theology, language, scripture, history, etc.. St. Peter reminds us the importance of studying, “Be ready always with an answer to everyone who asks a reason for the hope that is in you”. (1 Pt. 3:15)
The popular mission in Avondale, Pennsylvania began on June 12th and concluded with the closing Mass on Sunday, June 25th. The mission was preached by Fr. Mariano Vicchi, IVE, with the assistance of Fr. Emmanuel Martelli, IVE. By the grace of God, this mission was very fruitful principally because of the numerous sacraments that were administered on Friday, June 23rd, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On this day, more than 80 persons received various sacraments including baptism, Holy Communion, confirmation and Holy Matrimony. Further, the parish of St. Rocco’s was consecrated to the Sacred Heart on this day, and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the following day.
“The devout participation of the faithful in the Eucharistic procession on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is a grace from the Lord which yearly brings joy to those who take part in it.”
These words from our spiritual father, Pope St. John Paul II, should serve to stimulate us to celebrate Corpus Christi wherever and whenever possible with a solemn procession in accord with that tradition which was firmly rooted even in the 12th century. This practice has continued to be recommended by the Church in order that “the Christian people [might] give public witness of faith and devotion towards the sacrament.”
How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me? I will take up the cup of salvation and call upon the Lord’s name
These words from the psalmist beautifully describe the interior sentiments of all five men who were ordained to the priesthood during the month of May for the Province of the Immaculate Conception. Hailing from five different countries, (Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hong Kong, and the USA) these new priests were made perpetual participants in the High Priest’s sacrificial office in three different locations on three different days. Fr. Ted Trinko was ordained in his home parish of Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara on May 8th, Our Lady of Lujan’s feast day. Present at that Mass was then Fr. Michael Zhang who was soon thereafter ordained in his own hometown of Hong Kong on May 20th. Finally, Fr. Manuel Palma, Fr. Mariano Ruiz, and Fr. Willian Valle together with Dcn. Cecilio Hernandez were ordained together at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on May 27th by the hands of Theodore Cardinal McCarrick. In his homily, His Eminence highlighted the positive response to God’s call which was given by all the candidates and how their vocation ultimately called them to an intimate union with Christ. All three liturgies were accompanied by an overflowing spirit of joy and gratitude for the grace of the priesthood.
Over the last several weeks a statue of Our Lady of Fatima has been making its way around the various IVE communities in honor of the upcoming Centenary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13th 2017, in Fatima, Portugal. The promulgation of this devotion quickly spread throughout the whole world. Devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and in answer to her request brought forth the imperative consecration of the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1942, by Ven. Pope Pius XII; and twice later renewed by Pope Paul VI and Pope Saint John Paul II (1967 and 1982).
